Overview

Seamus Heaney HomePlace’s ‘Open Ground’ is a series of five locations, all of which held significance for the poet, from The Strand at Lough Beg to the banks of the Moyola River. An interpretive panel explains the literary connection with each location, supplemented by a listening post through which the poet’s own voice can be heard reading the related text.

What We Did

Works across the five locations included design, manufacture, and installation of the interpretive panels and audio-visual equipment. We also installed a series of bespoke Corten steel art panels and reinstated hard and soft landscaping.

Key Detail

For the hard and soft landscaping, we used local natural stone, not only because it was sympathetic to the environment but also to the ethos of the entire project.

What they said

The development of five sites linked to different poems was a great idea from the start and there is something special and genuinely powerful hearing the poems read in their own “homeplaces”
