Overview
Since March 2020, we have been the main contractor on this complex coastal village improvement scheme across three villages in North Down. The challenge has been to enhance access and amenities while reflecting the outstanding natural beauty of the villages and their setting. This is a fine example of our capacity to deliver a high-quality public sector contract in an environmentally sensitive area.
What We Did
Given the sensitivity of the sites involved, a full ecological survey was completed before works began. We then cleared the site, reusing materials wherever possible. Old perimeter walls and fencing were removed; a carpark was extended and upgraded with a timber boardwalk to the shore. Context-appropriate street lighting, and new street furniture, signage and picnic furniture were installed. To date, extensive mixed drainage, kerbs, footpath and fencing have been installed. Earthworks and soft landscaping were also used to create a communal green space in Kircubbin.
Key Detail
We extensively reused excavated materials and also implemented urban greening and biodiversity improvements, installing coastal mixed shrubs and trees.
