Overview

Installation of a raised boardwalk structure and viewing platform within Sixmilewater Park Pond, Ballyclare.

What We Did

The design featured nine reinforced concrete piers founded on precast concrete manhole rings laid to the load-bearing sub-bed of the pond. Each pier was then filled with compacted hardcore. Once the reinforced supports were in place, we carried out a GPS survey to ensure safe and environmentally responsible precision manufacture and installation of over seven tonnes of stainless structural steel support beams and cross-braces. We then installed the raised timber boardwalk, utilising resin aggregate and bonded castellated decking boards to allow for a non-slip walkway. Hardwood handrails and galvanised steel mesh panels completed the balustrading to provide a safe yet aesthetically pleasing, environmentally sensitive construction.

Key Detail

MCS offered time and cost saving solutions in the methodology of construction that allowed the project to be completed on time and well within budget, despite having to work through the worst March snowfall in nearly 30 years.
