Overview
Installation of plastic dams for drain blocking and associated shrub/rhododendron clearance at raised bogs in two special conservation areas.
What We Did
Ballynahone Bog is the second-largest intact lowland raised bog in Northern Ireland and is home to many rare species of native plants and animals. Our works included clearing rhododendrons and shrubs along raised ramparts between the peat bogs, and the installation of 282 dams made of specifically procured plastic piling to block the drains that run across the bogs.
We took exceptional efforts to providing effective solutions that respected this ecologically sensitive location.
Key Detail
We used specific machinery, procedures and techniques that would have as little impact on the habitat as possible. In addition, with good planning the job was carried out smoothly and completed ahead of schedule.
